What is Mobile Application Management (MAM)?
MAM is about getting the right enterprise mobile apps to users’ devices, then securing and managing them.
How is it different from Mobile Device Management?
Mobile Device Management (MDM) can play an important role in enterprise mobility – especially for company-owned devices. But because it’s device-centric, MDM tends to address the entire device, without distinguishing between the personal and the corporate. Mobile Application Management is app-centric, so it’s easy to target the things that matter most to enterprises – corporate apps and data – while leaving the personal stuff alone.
Doesn’t MDM do the same things as MAM?
No. There are lots of things MAM does that MDM cannot do. Like monitoring the usage of a specific app. Or wiping apps and data without wiping the entire device.
How do you secure a specific mobile app?
We give developers a mobile application security API to easily create apps that can be managed from the AppCentral server. The AppCentral mobile app security wrapper can be interrogated to track access and usage of a particular app by a particular user. It can also be triggered to lock the entire app and all its data in case of a minor emergency – and wipe it all in case of a major one. Without having to wipe the entire device.
What’s an Enterprise App Store?
It’s a company’s private, branded, self-service mobile app distribution solution that’s designed specifically for enterprise needs – like security, scale and manageability.
If you’ve used the iTunes App Store or Android Market, you already know how to use the AppCentral enterprise app store.
What mobile platforms does AppCentral support?
It’s inherently a cross-platform solution, so it will support all the major ones. We’ve come out of the gate supporting Apple iOS and Android, for both smartphones and tablets, with support for more platforms in the works.
What kind of apps can I put in my AppCentral enterprise app store?
Any apps you like. In-house-developed ones are the most important, but you can also add links to apps that appear in consumer app marketplaces and promote them to your users.
Why can’t our users just use the iTunes App Store or Android Market?
Because every app in a consumer marketplace can be downloaded by anyone, they are not the right mechanism for distributing proprietary enterprise apps that access sensitive corporate data. They also don’t have the enterprise security and management features you need.
How big is the enterprise app market?
The enterprise mobile application market is one of the fastest growing areas in the mobile app market. A survey AppCentral conducted with mobile experts and IT professionals during Q2 2011 indicated 60% are going to create at least one (1) enterprise application in the next 12 months. If you are looking to the future, ABI Research published a report in Q2 2011 that expects 830 million enterprise app users by 2016.
